Hot news! Chord Hugo TT just arrived at Audio T

We have just taken delivery of our much anticipated new Chord Hugo TT DAC/Headphone amplifier!

We love the Hugo so couldn't wait to get our hands on the Hugo TT.  The beautifully machined solid alloy casework is bigger enabling XLR outputs, 2 x 6.3mm headphone jack sockets plus the major upgrade of an asyncronous USB-B input.

Hugo TT has the advantage of full remote over it's baby brother with an alpha numeric LED display and enhanced performance courtesy of supercapacitors which also double battery life.  The addition of A2DP Bluetooth gives extra flexibility to this unique product.  Not just a DAC but a top quality headphone amplifier and audiophile grade pre-amplifier too, the Hugo TT is all of these things!

It looks absolutely stunning too!

We won't take long to run it in and give it a proper listen so give us a call to book a demo or home loan as soon as you can.  Demand for this outstanding product is going to be very high!

See you soon,

Alan and John

Two new speaker ranges arrive! Monitor Audio Bronze and Rega!

This week we have been doubly excited at taking delivery of new speakers from both Monitor Audio and Rega!

Monitor Audio's Bronze range has always represented great sound quality and finish at very realistic prices but the new Bronze range has set the bar even higher with all new drive units taking technology and design elements from the more expensive, Silver, Gold and even Platinum ranges.

We have Bronze 1, £230, Bronze 2, £280, Bronze 5, £550, Bronze 6, £700 and Centre, £160 all available for demonstration.

Bronze 6 in Rosemah finish is currently being run in and already sounding stunning in our dem room.  It's an incredible amount of speaker for £700.00, both physically and musical performance.  Very punchy fast bass with no overhang and a detailed and sweet top end.

If you are looking for a bit of a bargain we still have one demo pair of oak BX1 available for £159.00.  Not quite as good as the new Bronze 1 but at £71.00 less, still a great speaker at a budget price.

We also have one demo pair of black BX5 left priced at £399.00.  It's a massive £100 off and £150.00 less than the new Bronze 5.

From Rega we have received our new RX1 stand mounter and RX3 floor stander with RX5 due soon. These new speakers are a big step forward with bass/mid drivers and superbly finished new heavier cabinets with much cleaner looking grilles.

Our demo RX1 in walnut looks superb...

...as does our RX3 in cherry.  It's a light enough finish to complement oak or Maple furniture too.

The price points are higher than the previous RS range, reflecting the substantial improvement in drive units, sound and build quality.  RX1 is £798, RX3 is £1298 and RX5 is £1698.  Black Ash finish is also an option along with Walnut and Cherry.

Those with an eye for a bargain may be interested in a chance to snap up our last demo pair of RS3 in Cherry for £619, a massive saving of £159 on the original price of £778 and less than half the price of Rega's new first floorstander, the RX3!  The cabinets are unmarked and we have the boxes.

Whether you want to grab yourself some bargain ex-demo speakers or listen to new models from Rega or Monitor Audio plus any other delights in store, we hope to see you soon.

Stunning Cyrus Signature System at Southampton Audio T!

Having been without Cyrus's premium range of Hi-Fi separates for a while we are delighted to rejoin the elite club of Cyrus Signature stockists.

We have had our demo system for long enough now to run it in and have been blown away by the improvements in sound quality which Cyrus have engineered into their top flight products since our involvement with the previous range.

From the top the first product is the Stream X Signature, Cyrus's top flight streamer source component.  It's capable of the highest quality 24 bit/192 kHz audio files with the added advantage of over 100,000 internet radio stations being accessible via TuneIn.  The Cadence app enables access to your entire music library via iOS or Android.  The audio performance is superb, open, detailed and fully engaging.  At £1249.95 it's something of an audiophile bargain.

Next shelf down the Stream X Signature is digitally linked to a DAC XP Signature, audiophile DAC preamplifier.  The 32 bit resolution DAC is separated fom the fully balanced preamp section, avoiding any noise interference or distortion and the end result of this attention to detail shines through in the authority and clarity of the sound.

The DAC XP Signature is £2999.95.  A fair price for the performance on offer especially as it is effectively two high end products in one.

Below this and connected to the DAC XP Signature is a PSX-R2 power supply, the latest improved version of Cyrus's biggest selling product.  It can enhance the performance of many Cyrus products, present and past.  In this deployment it powers the filter stages of the DAC XP Signature maximising the isolation between DAC and preamp power supplies making a great product even better.  Well worth the price of £745.00 in the context of this system.

The lower two shelves house Mono X 200 signature power amplifiers.  Cyrus's trademark distinctive and compact casework gives little clue to the amount of power these amplifiers are capable of, an astonishing 150W into 8 ohms, rising to 240W into 4 ohm loads.  Distortion is virtually non-existent thanks to the Zero Feedback design.  The smart cooling fans only function when listening at high level and automatically switch off during quiet passages to ensure your musical enjoyment isn't spoiled.

For those needing, or wanting, even more power Mono X 300 Signatures are available at £2749.95 each, providing 225W into 8 ohms and 365W into 4.  The Mono X 200 Signatures are £1949.95 each and have absolutely no trouble driving our current favourite speakers, the amazing PMC Twenty 26.

In fact, this Cyrus system with the PMC speakers has stunned us with it's grip and authority and sheer musicality.  Give us a call to come in for a listen.  We're sure you'll be equally impressed!

Incidentally, the Cyrus Tri-Arbour housing this system is for sale as an ex-demo bargain, reduced from £534.95 to £300.00.  The buyer would need to collect from our store.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Alan and John

Record Store Day just two days away!

With only two days to go until Record Store Day 2015 we have been over to RSD partner record store, Hundred Records in Romsey to set up this cracking vinyl playing music system in time for this exciting event!

Rega are proud to sponsor Record Store Day this year and we are equally proud to give owner of Hundred Records, Mark Wills' customers the opportunity to hear their newly purchased vinyl on this superb Rega based hi-fi.

The turntable is a Rega RP6 running into a Rega Elicit R amplifier.   A Rega Saturn R CD player is also connected just in case anyone wants to hear a CD, and the system is housed on a solid oak HiFi Racks Podium Slimline rack which nicely matches the real wood veneer of the Monitor Audio Silver 6 speakers.

Having seen some of the many boxes of special new releases arriving at Hundred Records we are sure that Mark will have a busy and exciting day on Saturday!

Any customers buying new releases at Hundred Records on Record Store Day will be entitled to 10% discount on any Rega products purchased from Audio T Chandlers Ford until May 30th.

Here they are, sealed and waiting.  Some are already spoken for but you still have time to pre-order one. If you are really lucky you might even get one signed by Chrissie Hynde or Mark Knopfler amongst others!  Full details of participating musicians here.

Just 12 of the 500 RSD turntables will be autographed so call us now if you want a chance to own a unique example of an already rare and exclusive turntable!   All are security sealed with no way of knowing whether an autograph may be hidden within but this is a one off opportunity not to be missed!

Rega are proud to sponsor Record Store Day this year.  Read all about it here.

Local independent record store, Hundred Records in Romsey will be fully participating in Record Store Day with many exclusive vinyl releases available on the day.

Store owner Mark already has a Rega RP1 supplied by Audio T.  We also hope to have a Rega system running in Hundred Records during Record Store Day - you may even get a chance to spin your newly purchased vinyl!

If Mark is too busy to play your records, and we suspect he may be, pop over to Chandlers Ford with your new albums and we will happily play them on a Rega turntable for you.  We're always happy to listen to new music, especially on vinyl!

You can collect your Rega RSD turntable at the same time, but only if you reserve one soon!

We look forward to seeing you next Saturday, either at Hundred Records or here at Audio T, or, even better, both!

Linn LP12 springs back to life!

Over 100,000 examples of the iconic Linn Sondek LP12 have been produced in the forty plus years since it first appeared.

Many, like this one, belonging to one of our long term customers, and bought here many years ago, have been resting unused for some considerable time whilst CD has been the primary source of music at home.

It's all there, and working, just a bit tired and in need of a bit of TLC and a makeover.  Like many, this particular customer, is reconnecting to his record collection and rediscovering the joy of listening to vinyl. There really is nothing quite like it.

Having recently invested in a significant system and speaker upgrade, the goal was to breathe new life into this classic vinyl spinner rather than go down the costly path of fitting every possible upgrade.

This particular example, from the early 1980s, has the early dark tinted lid.

A new clear lid will sharpen up the appearance but first the turntable is placed in a Linn set up jig and powered up to confirm that the motor and Valhalla power supply are both working correctly.

The Ittok arm is also checked to ensure both the vertical and horizontal arm bearings aren't exhibiting any sticky points in their travel and the arm moves freely in both planes.

The Linn Karma cartridge is well past it's best and will be replaced as part of the overhaul.

The stripdown commences with the removal of the arm and outer and inner platter.

The power supply, suspension and sub-chassis and armboard can then be removed.

At this stage the top plate is checked to ensure the correct fit against the wooden plinth.  Any movement or rattles in the rear motor corner badly affect the performance of any LP12.  The main bearing is also emptied of old oil and inspected for wear whilst the sub-chassis/armboard assembly is separated from the suspension.

The suspension bolts are checked and adjusted using the Linn T bar tool to ensure they are totally vertical before reassembly.  Failure to do this makes accurate suspension set up very long winded if not impossible.

New springs, upper and lower grommets and lock nuts are used to reset the suspension.  Thirty year old rubber will have hardened and springs this old are about as fit for purpose on a suspended turntable as ancient shock absorbers would be in a car.

The next job, and often the longest on a Linn, is to level and reset the suspension to ensure free and smooth vertical travel with no sideways movement, both when static and with the platter turning.  This example is one of the easier ones and soon settles into a satisfyingly smooth and precise bounce.  The alignment of the armboard is checked with a Linn Kinky tool (yes, really!) to ensure the correct position of the arm pillar relative to the centre spindle.

The bearing is filled with new Linn oil, a new belt fitted and a new Dynavector DV10XV high output moving coil cartridge is fitted to replace the ageing Linn Karma, the arm balanced and tracking weight and bias set. The cartridge is aligned with a Linn protractor and the VTA (vertical tracking angle) of the arm is checked and adjusted.

The turntable accuracy is checked with a Linn strobe disc and speed checker.  All is now as it should be.

Finally, thirty years of oxidation and pitting to the platter rim are removed by the application of Brasso and a lot of elbow grease!  The newly polished finish is protected with a high quality car wax.  Similarly the wooden plinth is cleaned and has several coats of wax furniture polish applied to restore it's lustre.

A new clear lid and hinges finish off the makeover nicely.

Job done.  A thirty year old Linn looking as good as new and ready to spin LPs for a few more decades!

If you have a Linn LP12 or Rega in need of servicing, overhauling or updating please phone me or email first.  I'm quite happy to offer advice or look at other makes and models of turntables but space, and time, are limited, and there's only one of me!  Please call me and book a slot before bringing in your pride and joy.

Alan

New demo discs, thanks to Hundred Records

A big thank you to Mark, owner of Romsey's new independent record store, Hundred Records, for generously supplying us with some great, and much needed, new demo vinyl and CDs!

The new albums include a couple on both formats for anyone who would like to compare the vinyl and CD versions.

We supplied and installed a Rega RP1 and Rega Fono Mini A2D in Mark's record store this week so he can demonstrate the great sound of vinyl to his customers as well as keeping himself entertained!

The red mat is an option to personalise Rega turntables, also available in blue, yellow and purple.  RP1 comes in Cool Grey or Titanium as well as the pristine white of the one now residing in Hundred Records.

Mark's store has a great selection of music on vinyl and CD and music books so do pop along and have a browse or contact Mark if you want to order anything obscure.  Take a look first though as Hundred Records is well-stocked with a diverse range of all genres of music.  It's a much more pleasurable experience than buying music on line!

Don't hesitate to contact us if you want to hear how a new Rega turntable can enhance your musical enjoyment.

Things have moved on a bit since the days of the 78 rpm record below but we are still here to supply, service and upgrade turntables.

Mainsprings and steel needles are no longer required but we can supply and fit drive belts, motor and power supply upgrades as well as styli and cartridges!

Watch this space for news about Record Store Day on April 18th.  Rega are the official audio sponsors and Hundred Records and Audio T will be very much involved...

New Naim Wall and other November news

We are delighted and grateful to Naim for installing our new wall.  It was well worth the wait.  As you can see it focuses the eye on a prominent shop front position dedicated to showcasing Naim products.

The system running above sounded great on both vinyl using Rega's RP10/Apheta and Aria or streaming via Naim's NDX and DAC.

Both sources were fed through a Supernait 2 driving Focal Aria 926 speakers.

There was no shortage of drive, dynamics and sheer musicality with this set up and it highlighted the merits of the best of analogue and digital music playback.

The arrival of the Naim wall coincided with the much anticipated appearance of our demonstration Naim mu-so.  Having lived with it for a few weeks now we are still marvelling at the room filling ability of this most elegant and discreet wireless speaker system.

It really sounds like a full sized hi-fi system running a decent size pair of speakers.

mu-so is on permanent demonstration in store.  Come and be amazed.  The mu-so app is very intuitive but once you've handled the very tactile control you won't be able to leave it alone!  It's very slick!

Also new in store is Quad Vena.  A compact high quality integrated amplifier with AptX Bluetooth and a good range of digital and analogue inputs packaged in retro style casework harking back to Quad's classic past products, Vena is a very appealing and capable amplifier at a very reasonable £599.95.

Lancaster grey is the standard finish with piano black or white or wood veneer available for an extra £100.  We look forward to running in this exciting new product and putting it through its paces.

Finally, we are very pleased to now have the new Pioneer BDP-LX58 Blu-ray universal disc player on dem.  We have been awaiting a reference quality disc player from Pioneer for some time, one that matches the performance and build quality of their high end AV receivers.

BDP-LX58 certainly fits the bill.  It's a reassuringly heavy 9.9kg with an iron chassis and rigid quiet drive mechanism designed to eliminate vibrations.

The brushed alloy front panel is particularly classy and uncluttered.

We and our customers have been most impressed with both the video and audio performance of the BDP-LX58 through the SC-LX88 AV receiver in our Dolby Atmos dem room.  Atmos soundtracks really come to life and the picture is vivid with superb motion tracking making movies totally absorbing.

If this is what Pioneer can achieve with a £600.00 Blu-ray player we can't wait to see and hear the flagship BDP-LX88 when it arrives very soon!

Chord and Arcam Day - minus One!

Yes, just one day to go until our Chord and Arcam open day and, as you can see below, the mighty Arcam C49 and two P49 power amplifiers have arrived!

Our new demo UDP411 universal disc player is also here and already hooked up to our Arcam D33 DAC.

The whole system is warming up nicely, awaiting the arrival of Matt from Chord and James from Arcam later today to complete the set up with Sarum cables and to fine tune the system and position of the PMC Twenty 26 speakers.

This hi-fi will sound amazing!  We can't wait to start playing some tunes later today.

We are sure you will want to join in the fun and look forward to seeing you tomorrow.  Don't forget to bring some of your favourite music.

Chord and Arcam Day - Saturday 11th October, now with extra P49 power!

We are thrilled to announce that our Chord and Arcam open day, now just one day away, will feature not only the new Arcam A49 integrated amplifier, but also the C49 pre-amplifier and.....

not just one P49 power amplifier ..... but two of these range topping amplifiers set up in bridged mono mode!

This is going to be good, very good!  We can't wait to hear this powerhouse of a system.

We will have the new Arcam UDP411 universal disc player's digital output feeding Arcam's D33 DAC linked to C49 and on to the two P49s which will drive a pair of PMC Twenty 26 speakers.

This stunning system will be hooked up with Chord cables throughout, starting with mains, then ethernet, digital, analogue and, finally, speaker cables.  It will easily have the transparency and resolution to demonstrate all the potential upgrades from C-Stream to Sarum.

You will not want to miss this!

See you on Saturday 11th October, anytime between 11am and 6pm.

Audio T Southampton is creating the right ATMOS-phere!

Today marks an important day here at Audio T Southampton where a few weeks work have paid off with the release of Dolby Atmos.

In the previous couple of weeks, having been up to visit Dolby at their UK headquarters in Soho Square, I came back thinking how I could integrate Dolby Atmos into our demonstration room.

I then set about installing 4 new in ceiling speakers into our floating ceiling and wiring them back to our system ready for Atmos to arrive.

The new LX Range of Pioneer home cinema amps are all Atmos capable but required the release of the software to get them up and running. Today was the big day!

I set about un-boxing the top of the Range SC-LX88 like a kid at Christmas. Having a look round the back I was pleased to see a full array of speaker terminals ready for my new ceiling speakers.

Plugging it in, I then set about updating the software to enable it to deliver its full potential with Atmos. Updatable via USB or over the net this was completed within just a few minutes, far less than the estimated 26 minutes.

Following through the Pioneer MCACC set up, I got all the speakers connected up in the right configuration for a 5.4.2 set up. This refers to the number of traditional speakers you have for your surround sound system plus the additional height channels connected for Atmos.

Hooking up one of the matching Pioneer Blu-ray players, I popped in our new Dolby Atmos demo disc and fired it up. Setting the amp to its new surround mode. I was very pleased wto see Atmos flag up immediately after loading the demo disc.

Giving a few of the new Atmos trailers a spin, I was very impressed with the results, lots of height and dynamics and a real feeling of being wrapped in a very solid 360 degree soundstage which raised the home cinema experience to a whole new level.

I then tried a more traditional Dolby True HD format letting the Atmos processor add in the extra height channels and the image was as brilliant as I expected. I can't wait for Atmos capable blu-ray movies to be launched so we can really put the system through it paces.

For now, feel free to pop in with a couple of your favourite discs and experience the new Dolby Atmos in our demonstration room and prepare to have your senses tingled with the latest in home cinema formats whilst you relax with a good cup of tea.

Chord and Arcam Day - Saturday 11th October featuring Sarum and A49 and UDP411

We will be holding an open day on Saturday 11th October between 11am and 6pm.

Matt from Chord will be here with a comprehensive range of Chord Company interconnects and speaker cables available for demonstration.

The benefits of high quality ethernet cables will be demonstrated, from £40 C-Stream all the way up to £1875 Sarum.  We will be using Arcam's new UDP411 Universal disc player and streamer through their flagship A49 integrated amplifier into PMC's magnificent Twenty 26 speakers.

We were mightily impressed with the A49 when we first heard it recently so are very excited that James from Arcam is also hoping to bring along the not yet released C49 and P49 pre and power amp.  We just can't wait to hear the A49 again, and maybe C49/P49, with the UDP411 and PMC Twenty 26s!

To top it all we are delighted that we are now Chord Sarum stockists with audio interconnects, power cables and speaker cables all available for demonstration either in store or at home.

Give your ears a treat!  We look forward to seeing you on October 11th.

Naim mu-so preview!

Last week I was given the unique opportunity to visit the Naim Audio factory in Salisbury to listen to the new Naim mu-so.

First impressions in Naim’s demonstration room were somewhat dominated by the Statement amplifiers towering in the corner looking truly splendid without their heat sinks fitted, revealing the immense level of detail in the layers of circuitry on display.

My eyes were then drawn to two compact units on a table in the centre of the room. Having only seen pictures of the mu-so in press articles I wasn't sure exactly how big it was going to be, but I was immediately impressed by the discreet cabinet, how elegant it looked and how well built it clearly was.

The volume knob and display, the aesthetics of which are borrowed straight from Naim's Statement product, are the only thing to embellish the aluminium top of the unit. A full width rear heat sink keeps the sealed unit cool and doubles up as a substantial wi-fi aerial.

On the right hand side I found a USB socket and mini jack input. Behind the side panel is a Bluetooth aerial.

Picking the unit up to examine underneath I discovered just how heavy and well built the mu-so is. It feels weighty and solid despite the compact form. The underside reveals an optical input for use of mu-so to connect another audio component plus an ethernet socket for networking and a figure of 8 mains input.

Taking a look at mu-so's stylish speaker grille, it's well formed and curved with a stylish wave shape reminiscent once more of Statement. I saw examples with red and grey grilles. Mu-so will be supplied with a grey grille as standard and alternative colours will be available at an additional cost.

Removing the grille revealed an interesting array of drive units, including two bespoke race track units custom made for Naim, two mid-range units and a pair of soft dome tweeters complete the array. Jason from Naim was quick to point out the attention to detail that had been put into the design and construction of the drive units.

Jason then rapidly paired up his iPhone via Bluetooth and played me a track by Fink which immediately impressed, sounding detailed and weighty with impressive dynamics.

I wanted to test how easy it was to switch Bluetooth devices as this hasn't always been straightforward on some other wireless speakers. Jason quickly disconnected his phone and the Mu-so was there on my Bluetooth list in seconds and paired equally quickly. This meant I could listen to my own music. So I fired up a couple of my favourite tracks and was immediately impressed that the Mu-so totally captured the essence of the Naim family sound.

The bass line bounded along with rhythmic fun. Vocals were clean and emotionally involving. This really sounded like a baby Naim system, and it was playing mp3s from my iPhone via Bluetooth. I was staggered as to how good this unit was. I threw a couple more tracks at it, trying to trip it up, but the only thing I could detect was that it was creating more than enough energy to fill Naim’s large demonstration room with high quality sound.

Considering the unit I heard was undergoing it's final stages of audio tuning, and that the finished product will be even better, I think Naim have hit the spot with this wonderful piece of kit.

I came away from my morning at Naim thinking that the guys from Salisbury really have cracked it and they are about to release a product that will really raise a lot of eyebrows.

Thanks to everyone at Naim for making me so welcome during my sneak preview of mu-so, especially Jason Gould, for taking the time to demonstrate mu-so and talk me through the development and features of this fantastic product.

We eagerly await the arrival of our first mu-so delivery so all of our customers can share the Mu-so experience.

Watch this space!

Rega Elex-R Excels!

We were recently given the chance to listen to the brand new Rega Elex R Amp. This is a new amp in the range to sit in between the Brio R and the Elicit R. Having given it a good warming up I must say that it fits the bill beautifully. It has the fun factor of the Brio whilst driving the speakers with gusto much more like its bigger sibling the Elicit.

Having listened to a couple of tracks on it including The Lighthouse Family “Lifted” it bounded along on the bass line whilst showing off all the details of the track.

For under £900 we think this amp will truly stun you with its performance and value for money. Including the same built in phono pre amp stage as the Elicit R this is a great amp for both your vinyl collection and your digital music alike.

Our demo Elex R has now arrived and sounding great as we run it in. Give us a call to book a demo or grab your favourite LP or CD and pop in for a listen.

Cyrus Lyric 09 Ticks All The Boxes!

When we first saw pictures of the Cyrus Lyric we weren't convinced that the radically different look was a great move for Cyrus.

The instantly recognisable half width cast alloy casework has for so long been the familiar face of Cyrus products that the Lyric's unique full width styling came as a bit of a suprise.

Now that we have had our demo Lyric 09 for a few weeks the looks have grown on us and the quality of the metalwork and elegant front panel impresses far more than mere pictures would suggest.

What has really won us over though is the stunning performance of the Lyric 09.  Naim have dominated this sector for some time with the wonderful Uniti 2 and we have been mightily impressed that Cyrus have produced a truly worthy contender to give our customers a real choice of great one box solutions at around £3000.

Cyrus have incorporated quality components from its range of separate components to great effect.  The slot loading CD mechanism is the same as the CD T transport and the streaming section comes from the Stream XP2 QX.  In addition DAB, FM and internet radio are provided, along with Bluetooth, using the higher quality aptX codec.

Inputs are comprehensive, including one front and one rear USB A sockets for external hard drives, MP3 players and Apple devices.  A USB B input enables connection of a computer and there are sufficient analogue and digital sockets to cover pretty much any scenario.

Control is via touch sensitive front panel controls, with a front panel display capable of portaying a detailed image of album artwork, a good quality and well laid out remote control or the Cyrus Cadence app for iOS and Android devices.  The Cadence app is intuitive to use and offers comprehensive control with the virtual volume knob being a particularly nice touch.

The features tick most of the boxes but none of this matters if the sound quality doesn't deliver.  I'm glad to say that we have been blown away by the audio performance of Lyric 09.  Cyrus have really excelled here with 170 watt (into 8 ohms) per channel and music of all types is delivered with effortless openness and clarity.  Dynamics are produced with real scale and subtle detail is handled with delicacy. This is a stunning one box solution which does not compromise performance for convenience.

Give us a call to book a demo or just call in as the Lyric 09 is normally running in the front of our shop as we can't get enough of it!

See you soon,

Alan and John

Easter News!

You won't find many Easter Eggs here but we have lots of new and exciting treasures to tell you about!

The first products may be small, as you can see by the mug for scale, but you won't have to hunt far to find them!

We were so amazed by the performance of the Musical Fidelity V90 series that we just had to have them.

From the top we have V90 Blu, Blu tooth receiver, V90 Amp, V90 DAC, V90 HPA, headphone amp and V90 LPS MM/MC phono stage.

It might look like a scaled down separates system but the sound is dynamic and the amplifier packs a far bigger punch than the diminutive casework suggests.

With prices ranging from £149 to £249 there is a product, maybe a complete system, to suit everyone.

Keeping with the compact and bijou theme we have also taken in Chord Electronics' remarkable Hugo. This is a portable DAC and headphone amp without compromise.  Chord Electronics have had an unrivalled track record in digital to analogue conversion since the DAC 64 was launched two decades ago.

The beautifully finished alloy casework houses Chord's FPGA (field programmable gate array) circuitry to decode digital signals, DSD timing and for volume control amongst its functions.

The sheer resolution of this product has to be heard to be appreciated.  Musicality is not compromised and Hugo sounds warm and engaging and is far from sterile and uninvolving.

The compact case houses a full set of sockets including two USB sockets, one capable of 32 bit/384kHz, the other for tablets and phones at 16 bit/48kHz plus Bluetooth.  Rechargeable batteries make Hugo fully portable whilst the audiophile performance enables it to slot into the very best hi-fi systems.

£1400.00 is a very fair price for this level of performance and flexibility.  Have a listen and we're sure you will be impressed.

Easier to spot in store is our new JVC DLA-X500 home cinema projector.  We've always been fans of JVC projectors and are delighted to give this awesome product pride of place in our dem room.

The contrast level of the X500 is remarkable.  It achieves inky blacks with no loss of detail.  The whole colur spectrum is delivered with brightness, vibrancy and a naturalism that is very difficult to achieve at any price level, let alone at the £4995.00 price point of the JVC.  Just give us a call to book a demo and prepare to be wowed!

For those looking for a discreet and sensibly priced improvement for their TV sound,  we have just taken in the Wharfedale Vista 100 soundbar.

The compact (810mm wide) enclosure houses a 60W amp driving six neodymium drivers with two located on the side panels to create a spacious 3D effect.  This is aided by Sonic Emotion Absolute 3D technology, with modes for Music, Movie and Game.  There are optical and coaxial digital inputs plus analogue RCA and 3.5mm minijack inputs, and it has Bluetooth connectivity.

And the price for all this?  Just £149.95!  We thought it sounds great and so much better than the feeble sound which emanates from any slimline TV.  Why not treat yourself for Easter?

Last, but definitely not least,  we now have the long awaited new B&W 600 series in stock and on demonstration.  It was well worth the wait!

The performance of this new range of speakers is a major step forward.  The 684 S2 pictured above is a much more slim and elegant floorstander than it's predecessor and the clarity and openness of the decoupled double dome tweeter fitted to all 600 series models is a revelation for such an affordable range of speakers.

With prices ranging from £349.95 to £1149.95 there is a model to suit all requirements, including centre speakers to assemble a home cinema package.  Finishes are contemporary black or white and an excellent B&W floor stand (STAV 24 S2) is available for the 685 S2 and 686 S2 for just £99.95 per pair.

That's all of our news for now.  We hope our range of new products includes something to interest you.

Hope to see you soon.

Happy Easter

Alan and John

P.S. Nearly forgot. Our kettle exploded, literally. It emitted flames and smoke!  We now have a new one so rest assured we can still make you a cuppa!
