Anthem MRX500 A/V Receiver demonstrations available in store

We have now received our new Anthem MRX500 receiver! Anthem is a Canadian company that focuses on sound quality rather than a long feature list and it shows on the MRX500 model. Key to Anthem is their own ARC room correction facility.

ARC analyzes each speaker’s in-room response then sets output levels, crossover frequencies and room correction parameters for each one. The receiver comes with a calibrated microphone and pc software which we used in our room to set it up. Basic set up without using the microphone can also be done.

Result ? Absolutely fantastic sound quality from the receiver when used with Kef R Series speakers. The receiver is VERY conservatively rated at 100w per channel. Don't let that put you off. This receiver has more 'real' power than the competition as proved to us when we put the KEF R Series speakers on the end of it.

The Anthem MRX500 has 4 HDMI inputs and will also handle 3D sources with ease. Internet radio and the ability to play music from a usb or flash drive is also onboard. The receiver also comes with a 3 year warranty.

Currently we are running the MRX500 in our Home Cinema demonstration room with the Kef R Series speaker package in a 7.1 configuration with a Velodyne SPL1200 subwoofer. Source components include Pioneer BDP LX55 and Panasonic BDT320 blue ray players. The Anthem MRX500 is supplying the image to an Optoma projector.

Optoma HD33 Projector now in store!

We have had a JVC projector for quite a while now in the demo room. We have now installed the multi award winning Optoma HD33 projector as well.

Initial impressions are very good (excellent in fact!) with both 2D and 3D sources. The projector is brighter than the JVC model and this means that it can still give a good image in ambient light conditions. The projector has no lens shift, however if it is positioned with the right ceiling mount then that will not be an issue. Currently Optoma are offering two extra 3D glasses with the HD33 until 31st July. So you get 3 pairs of 3D glasses in total.

Features include 2 HDMI 1.4a inputs, 1080p Picture quality, 3D and it is also whisper quiet in operation.

Customers who have seen this projector in action are astonished at what the newer projectors can deliver in terms of picture quality with both blue ray and even standard dvd!

Naim Factory Visit for Customers

We are organising a factory visit to Naim to give you an opportunity to meet the people behind the scenes and see the production facility first hand.

Headphones that do more for less

We broke out a pair of the new Pioneer SE-MJ751 Bass head headphones this afternoon and they revealed a number of pleasant surprises. The name BASS HEAD suggests they will give you not much else and therefore have a limited market and range. This however was not the case, they have an easy to use bass control on the outside of the left ear piece allowing you to adjust to your preference. They are comfortable and stylish keeping up with the modern trend. We tried them with several tunes some with heave bass and vice versa. The adjustable control made them very adept throughout, and then you consider the price at £79.95 making them a definite candidate for demonstration at least.

 At £200 for the Beats offering  I could not justify spending an extra £120 , the Pioneers do it all, comfortable, stylish, great sound.

We also tried their little brothers the SE-MJ721 at £44.95. again a hugely competent and stylish headphone  for the price and well worth a listen

A visit to Chord Company...

I didn't realise making cables was so fun (and difficult at the same time)

Myself (Danny) and Mahmood travelled to pleasent town of Salisbury this week to take a trip around The Chord Company's headquarters.

With only a team of 23 Chord aren't the biggest in regards to staff, but they do have some amazing facilities, equipment and very welcoming staff! Being my birthday on the day we went I was greeted by 'happy birthday' by everyone which made me realise that they are a close unit. They even got me some arctic roll with lunch and sang happy birthday. Wasn't expected but was a nice touch!

During the course of the day we learnt about the history of the company and what actually goes on behind the scenes when it comes to making the cables. From an idea, to making it, listening to it, tweaking it to then finalising the cable and producing it for the general public.

Myself and Mahmood made cables on the day and soon realised that it wasn't a case of chucking some plugs on to a bit of cable, and hey presto! The attention to detail in making sure every last bit of the cable is perfectly cut, soldered and prepared is astounding!
The highlight of my day was definitely going through all the cables that Chord make and seeing what differences they make and why! From Crimson to Sarum the changes are noticeable.

The Chord Company have some new products coming out soon so watch this space!

Proac are back in Preston, just arrived this morning are the Studio 140 Mk2's, Responce D1's and the Responce D18's and are already in the demonstration room sounding fantastic.

The very well reviewed and much sought after Marantz network radio NA-7004 have come back into stock also this week.

Just confirmed, we have some slightly more specialised two channel amps on order and we will keep you up to date when they arrive via our blog and finally, sadly we are losing one of our salesman this week, Darren is to leave for pastures new and we wish him all the best for the future.
