Rega RP3

Those of us familiar with the older Planar 3 and P3 were quite unprepared by how big an improvement the new RP3 is.

The biggest improvements come from the new RB303 arm and especially the braced plinth (allowing the plinth to be both very light and immensley rigid).

Spinning Kate Bush's version of Rocket Man (a song I know very well indeed), I was shocked by how sweet it sounded in comparison. I would also swear that there is a whole octave of previously unesolved bass extension as well.

For £549 (including Elys cartridge), this is a real turntable bargain.

Whilst on the subject of the more traditional. To further enhance our appreciation and support of quality analogue replay, we now have the Ortofon Cadenza Bronze MC cartridge mounted on our Michell Gyro SE with the Tecnoarm which is a wonderful combination

Moving away now from the high-end HiFi products and into our AV demonstration room, we have now installed the latest affordable JVC 3D projector, the DLA-X30 continuing with their reputation as the one to beat!

 

And finally, for now at least, we have the new B&W P3 portable and foldable headphones to compliment their class-leading P5s

STREAM STREAM STREAM, STREEEEEAM (stop dreaming start....)

We've been busy here at Brizzle. Naim came to town with their Future of Hi-Fi roadshow to demonstrate their superb range of streaming products. It was an excellent event and since then we can't stop selling NDX's and the like. Naim Discrete Regulator Power Supply Upgrade

Following a two year development project Naim has updated its power supplies to feature a new discrete regulator that greatly improves performance. The new Naim Discrete Regulator (DR) will be fitted to the HiCap, XPS, SuperCap, 552 PS and 555 PS power supplies.

Building on Naim’s upgrade path philosophy

The addition of outboard power supplies offers an established upgrade path for many Naim products. By improving the supplies themselves, removing the electromagnetic field of the transformer and interference generated by the rectifier diodes, and by eliminating transformer vibration from the product case, Naim power supplies offer improved sound quality.

The role of the regulator

Voltage regulators are widely deployed within Naim power supplies to ensure that audio and digital circuits operate with a stable, low noise supply voltage, thereby maximising their performance. Naim’s new discrete regulator betters industry standard monolithic voltage regulators and, even more importantly, has had its design and component selection refined in the listening room to deliver maximised sound quality from Naim’s audio circuits.

A pure development project

As well as incorporating the newly developed DR in these five power supplies, Naim has reviewed and optimised every aspect of their design. Transformer mounting, wire gauge, wire routing, mechanical decoupling, internal layout and reservoir capacitors have all been scrutinised to ensure that the DR’s benefits are fully realised. The result of the inclusion of the new DR regulators and the updates to design is a quite significant increase in performance which helps the listener to really connect with the artist and music.

Updating your product

Naim is offering a special reduced price to customers for updates to the new specification for power supplies that were shipped from Naim after 1st February (outside UK) and 1st March (in the UK). These units will be prioritised for updates in the first instance, however from October / November 2012 all existing units will be able to be updated.     Chord Company Visit

    It's easy to forget what a substantial difference cabling makes to your Hi-Fi. We recently visited The Chord Company to see how they manufactured their very fine range of cables, most of which are put together in their factory in Wiltshire. We had our soldering skills put to the test by one of their experts, which brought home just how rigorous their standards of manufacture are, and that some of the cables we took for granted are incredibly tricky to manufacture. After the visit, I took my new Anthem 2 cable home and slotted it into my system, it made a vast performance improvement over my already fairly decent cable. I would urge anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive upgrade to consider another look at their cabling. It really can make the difference between your system sounding average and amazing.

    So here we are back in the Audio T fold and there will be many exciting opportunities and products coming through the doors in the near future.

    To start off with we now have the beautiful Monitor Audio Gold GX range on display in our projection room, the first of the new generation of Pioneer AV amps has arrived in the shape of the VSX922 and we also have some new and funky headphones from Pioneer...not expensive but rather good.

    On the HiFi front we've got plenty of Naim, Rega, Cyrus and Audiolab to whet your appetite and some pretty cool streaming devices as well

    We're excited and looking forward to seeing customers old and new for a chat and a good listen to some great kit

    We are delighted to say that the fantastic new 2012 range of products from Pioneer has started to arrive in store.  Here is the exceptionally well specified VSX-922 warming up in our demonstration room fed by a BDP-LX55 Blu-ray player.

    We thought the VSX-921 would be a difficult act to follow as it set such an incredibly high benchmark in performance and features for £499 but first impressions of the new VSX-922 are that Pioneer have done it again! 

    New features include 6 HDMI sockets and a brand new application for iPhone and iPad including instruction videos for use of some of the features. Other upgrades have been made to amplification for enhanced audio performance plus a new cable specifically for the connection of Android devices
