Elbow Start Using PMC Speakers!

One of the country’s most popular bands and creator of the BBC Olympics music, platinum-selling elbow, is adopting and endorsing multi award-winning PMC loudspeakers.

The band’s selection will ensure the quality of its music performance and production is captured as acurately as possible in the studio to provide authentic playback in the home.

The UK's Mercury Prize winning alternative rock band, which also performed at the London 2012 opening ceremony, has chosen PMC's IB2SA-P main monitors and the critically acclaimed twotwo.6 nearfield monitors for its studio in Manchester and selected products from PMC's twenty series for their domestic hi-fi use. The integration of PMC speakers enables the band members to record in their dedicated studio facility and hear the results sounding exactly the same in the more relaxed atmosphere of their homes.

The choice of PMC for the band’s studio ensures the complete recording process, from initial ideas through recording and mixing, and concluding with mastering, which is done at Metropolis Mastering in London, is conducted using identically voiced loudspeakers. Likewise, for music lovers listening at home using PMCs, they will hear elbow’s latest work sounding exactly the way the band intended it to sound and exactly how it sounded for them in the studio.

Currently working on their sixth studio album, the band is basking in the phenomenal success of Seldom Seen Kid and Build A Rocket Boys, and is keen to become more involved in composing sound tracks and film scores after its Olympics experience.

Craig Potter, keyboard player and the band’s resident producer/engineer, says, "We have been using the PMCs for a few months and found that they allow us to monitor back exactly what we have recorded with incredible detail. There's no flattering colouration and with solid extended bass and very natural mids we've found we can really rely on them" He adds, "We also have PMCs at home now and we've all heard subtleties in our music collections that we hadn't noticed before."

Miles Roberts, managing director of PMC, comments, “To have a band of elbow’s standing choose to equip their studio with PMC speakers is a fantastic testament to the unswerving dedication shown by our engineers to produce speakers that allow discerning artists to capture their music without compromise.” He continues, “We are also delighted that the band has agreed to act as endorsees for our products and look forward very much to hearing the next album, which will be the first to have been crafted using PMC all the way from the writing to the mastering stage."

The importance of a good demonstration

At Audio T we want you to see and hear the best from your system and we want to ensure you get the best system for your money. The best way to do this is to experience the system you require in store with a full demonstration.

The performance of different equipment and accessories can bring significant changes to the sound and enjoyment of a Music System. There are many occasions when a customer has been surprised and said "I didn't think I would be able to tell the difference". They then become enthused and enjoy the demonstration, making a better choice of equipment, and hence enjoy their music to a greater extent.

We provide comfortable areas within our stores in order for you to make a better choice, as we truly believe in the demonstration process. So, feel free to bring along some music that you are familiar with, and come and listen. Let us open your ears to what we can do for you.

You cannot beat a good demonstration.

A visit to Chord Company...

I didn't realise making cables was so fun (and difficult at the same time)

Myself (Danny) and Mahmood travelled to pleasent town of Salisbury this week to take a trip around The Chord Company's headquarters.

With only a team of 23 Chord aren't the biggest in regards to staff, but they do have some amazing facilities, equipment and very welcoming staff! Being my birthday on the day we went I was greeted by 'happy birthday' by everyone which made me realise that they are a close unit. They even got me some arctic roll with lunch and sang happy birthday. Wasn't expected but was a nice touch!

During the course of the day we learnt about the history of the company and what actually goes on behind the scenes when it comes to making the cables. From an idea, to making it, listening to it, tweaking it to then finalising the cable and producing it for the general public.

Myself and Mahmood made cables on the day and soon realised that it wasn't a case of chucking some plugs on to a bit of cable, and hey presto! The attention to detail in making sure every last bit of the cable is perfectly cut, soldered and prepared is astounding!
The highlight of my day was definitely going through all the cables that Chord make and seeing what differences they make and why! From Crimson to Sarum the changes are noticeable.

The Chord Company have some new products coming out soon so watch this space!

Naim Discrete Regulator Power Supply Upgrade

Following a two year development project Naim has updated its power supplies to feature a new discrete regulator that greatly improves performance. The new Naim Discrete Regulator (DR) will be fitted to the HiCap, XPS, SuperCap, 552 PS and 555 PS power supplies.

Here is some more information from Naim and details on how existing models can be updated...

Building on Naim’s upgrade path philosophy

The addition of outboard power supplies offers an established upgrade path for many Naim products. By improving the supplies themselves, removing the electromagnetic field of the transformer and interference generated by the rectifier diodes, and by eliminating transformer vibration from the product case, Naim power supplies offer improved sound quality.

The role of the regulator

Voltage regulators are widely deployed within Naim power supplies to ensure that audio and digital circuits operate with a stable, low noise supply voltage, thereby maximising their performance. Naim’s new discrete regulator betters industry standard monolithic voltage regulators and, even more importantly, has had its design and component selection refined in the listening room to deliver maximised sound quality from Naim’s audio circuits.

A pure development project

As well as incorporating the newly developed DR in these five power supplies, Naim has reviewed and optimised every aspect of their design. Transformer mounting, wire gauge, wire routing, mechanical decoupling, internal layout and reservoir capacitors have all been scrutinised to ensure that the DR’s benefits are fully realised. The result of the inclusion of the new DR regulators and the updates to design is a quite significant increase in performance which helps the listener to really connect with the artist and music.

Updating your product

Naim is offering a special reduced price to customers for updates to the new specification for power supplies that were shipped from Naim after 1st February (outside UK) and 1st March (in the UK). These units will be prioritised for updates in the first instance, however from October / November 2012 all existing units will be able to be updated. For more information on pricing and how to get your unit updated please contact your Naim retailer.

Naim joins Britain's elite at the Make it in Great Britain exhibition

Naim Audio have been selected for involvement in a prestigious UK exhibition taking place this summer. Make it in Great Britain takes place at the Science Museum in London from 24th July to 9th September 2012. Naim’s dedication to consistently developing the highest quality home audio products over the last 35 years has earned it a place alongside other British manufacturing greats such as McLaren, Airbus, Rolls Royce and Sunseeker in this prestigious exhibition ahead of hundreds of other applicants.

Championing British Manufacturing
The aim of the Make it in Great Britain campaign is to banish the myth that ‘Britain doesn’t make anything anymore’ at a time when the world’s eyes are on Britain throughout the Olympic and Paralympic games and in the Diamond Jubilee year. The exhibit will tell the engineering story behind Naim products through interactive installations and ‘a great British hi-fi system’ playing ‘great British music’. Entry to the exhibition will be free of charge.

We look forward to hearing more about the products Naim plan to Show in the near future, meanwhile here's a little photo from the archives...
